Executives of the opposition New Patriotic Party in the Sunyani East Constituency have accused the ruling National Democratic Congress of attempting to manipulate the upcoming voters’ registration exercise.They claim to have evidence that the government is putting pressure on district and municipal electoral officers in the Brong Ahafo Region to recruit sympathizers of the ruling party as electoral officers for the impending voters registration exercise.The constituency secretary for the Sunyani East NPP, Asante Gyabaah told Joy News’ Araba Koomson “there is pressure on these people to recruit,” “…they are asking the municipal and district electoral officers to recruit sympathizers so that there will be registration officers at the polling stations and then they will be able to fix in more of their members or those they deem will be voting for them.”He said they have drawn the attention of the Electoral Commission to the plot, warning, they will resist any such attempt to manipulate the system. The resistance, he said, “will be anything."But the Brong Ahafo regional secretary of the NDC, Justice Samuel Agyei has dismissed the claims by the NPP executives.He said the accusations cannot be true because the Electoral Commission is not recruiting new officers for the exercise.He said the only role the NDC will play in the exercise is to recruit polling assistants to supervise the exercise on behalf of the NDC, adding there is not an iota of truth in the allegations of the NPP.Meanwhile the EC has told Joy News it has not received any formal complaints from the NPP executives.According to the Brong Ahafo EC boss, George Gyabaah it is only in Dormaa East where recruitment is being done, adding, he has absolute confidence in his recruiting officers to do a clean job.Source: Joy News/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
