The leadership of the ruling National Democratic Congress has condemned what it says are agitations in the party to undermine the President John Evans Attah Mills. At a press conference in Accra by NDC's Functional Executive Committee (FEC) to commemorate the 18th anniversary of the party, the party’s General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, warned of dire consequences should clandestine activities of unnamed party bigwigs, supporting various groups to challenge the President’s re-election for the 2012 elections, are not checked.“The Functional Executive Committee notes with concern attempts to undermine the sitting president and leader of our party by certain individuals with the objective of furthering the presidential ambitions of some members of the party in 2012.“The modus operandi of these potential aspirants has been the promotion and support of mushroom organizations within the party, to begin and intensify agitations based on genuine challenges leadership is trying to address”.Mr Nketia cautioned: “The Functional Executive Committee takes a serious view of this development.”The General Secretary reminded those involved that their actions are inimical to the interest of the party, and asked party members to ensure that whatever they do must be done within the confines of the party’s constitution, aims, objectives and policies. He said it has also come to the notice of the party’s executive, attempts by various government appointees including district chief executives and ministers of state who have begun moves to undermine sitting NDC Members of Parliament with the hope of replacing them in the next election. He, therefore, noted that it is incumbent on every member of the party to ensure among others, the unity of the party at all times, defend the name of the party as well as its decision, safely implement all lawful decisions of the party, show loyalty to the party at all times and to ensure that confidential matters are not divulged to any unauthorized person.Story by Isaac Essel/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
