He was not the first presidential aspirant of the New Patriotic Party to visit the Upper West before the August 4 presidential primary, but, according to all the local journalists, including those of the state media houses, the reception the Region has given Nana Akufo-Addo this week is like 'a general election'.Nana Akufo-Addo's unmatched popularity within the NPP continues to be reaffirmed from region to region. The Upper West is his sixth region on this national tour.At WA, the Upper East Regional capital, was electrifying. "It is as if Ghana has won the World Cup," was one comment made by a TV journalist.Though, Nana Addo was in the Region to meet specifically his party's delegates, news of his arrival got the people of Wa abandoning everything, including their television sets to pour onto the streets to welcome the 2008 presidential candidate of the NPP, who lost by the closest margin on record - 0.5%.Crowds of people, both young and old surged onto the principal streets of Wa and its outskirts as Nana Akufo-Addo's official convoy of four vehicles drove through. The people of the Upper West on motorcycles, about 30 buses packed with passengers in party wear and any other vehicle on wheels met Nana's team about 30Km away from Wa to bring him to the capital. Journalists counted over 200 riders on motorbikes, hooting in a Vuvuzela-like din.For over three hours the man tipped to win the 2012 presidential candidate race for the main opposition party and his convoy were escorted from the outskirts of Wa into the center of the town.Nana Addo and his Victory 2012 Team, including Boakye Agyarko, Dominic Nitiwul and Kobby Okyere-Darko were received in Wa by Ambrose Derry, the Deputy Minority Leader and the entire regional executives. The convoy had a hectic time driving to the rendezvous because of the thick crowd of people that had taken over the streets. They came from their homes, shops, offices, marketplace to cheer Nana Akufo-Addo and to encourage him to lead the NPP back into power. The Wa municipality came to a jubilant standstill as the emotionally charged crowd did the kangaroo-moving-forward dance to Daddy Lumba's popular 'Winner' hit song. The most-distinct chorus from the people was 'NO NANA NO VOTE!' Obviously, Nana's campaign message against that message fell on deaf ears. The display by the motorbikes coupled with songs by several brass bands created a street carnival which continued well after Nana had retired into the hall to address party delegates.Source: Nana Addo's campaign team
