Ghana’s Black Stars scraped through to the knock-out stage of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, though beaten 1:0 by a German side that rebounded from a gloomy cast over their campaign.A 60th minute strike by Mesut Oezil from outside the box left goalkeeper Richard Kingson stranded at the Soccer City Stadium, Johannesburg, and the result brought Germany’s points haul to six to line them up against England who finished second in Group C.Ghana with four points, will on June 26 take on the United States who topped Group C with five points. But Ghana’s qualification to the next round of the World Cup had a huge push from group mates Australia, who upset a hopeful Serbia side with a 2:1 win in the other Group D game.Serbia needed a win to qualify, and pre-match permutations favoured them highly to ditch Australia, however it was the athletic Aussies who picked their chances, and although the result did little to avert their exit from the tournament, they at least improved their own game and record. When Ghana come up against the US, the two sides will sharply be reminded by highlights of their previous clash in Nuremburg, Germany, during the 2006 edition of the tournament.
