Former First Lady and Vice-Chairman of the National Democratic Congress, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, has commended the senior national soccer team, the Black Stars, for putting up a courageous performance in their World Cup quarterfinal match against Uruguay on Friday.
Nana Konadu said though the Stars lost to Uruguay they were not disgraced at all and proved to the world that Ghana football could match the best in the world.
"Not a happy ending, but what a match! What a show! I am very proud of the boys. We will welcome them as the true heroes they are," the former First Lady said in post match comments.
Mrs. Rawlings said though the loss was a painful one for the millions of fans across the globe the Stars can walk with their shoulders high because they made history by the quality of football they exhibited throughout the tournament and the sense of perseverance, patriotism and dedication to duty they applied to the game.
Nana Konadu called on all Ghanaians to wish the Stars well, desist from negative post mortem on their performance and rather goad them on to achieve higher laurels in the future.
"Our gallant Stars deserve a true heroes welcome so let us give them a
mammoth reception when they arrive back home," she said.
