Maverick politician, Charles Kofi Wayo has called the bluff of Parliament calling the Minority Leader, Mr Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, “a super idiot and an illiterate.”
Kofi Wayo said the Minority Leader had called him a lunatic and an idiot – using an un-parliamentary language.
“What’s that God damn guy’s name, Mensah-Kyei or Kyei-Bonsu, he insulted me with un-Parliamentary language. He called me an idiot and a lunatic [but] because am civilized I don’t take offence to such comments…on the floor of Parliament he called me a lunatic and an idiot, so he proves that he’s a super idiot because in Parliament, you are not supposed to use un-Parliamentary language,” he said.
Kofi Wayo chastised the Minority Leader for, in his words, calling for the impeachment of president Mills “and when he was talking in Parliament, you realize he is totally an illiterate.”
But Mr Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu said Mr Wayo’s comments were ill-informed. He said he didn’t insult Kofi Wayo as claimed by the founder of the United Renaissance Party when he said the comments should be ignored.
“I do stand by what I said. I said that we should not go fishing, glorifying lunacy, I said so,” Mr Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu stated but before he finished, Mr Wayo interjected, “yeah, ahaa, and you called me idiot, that is ok with me that is un-Parliamentary…”
“Can you hold it, can you hold it,” Mr Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu snapped, “Have you listened to what I said? Did I say Kofi Wayo is an idiot?" he asked.
Enter Kofi Wayo: “Freedom, freedom of speech, that is good, ‘bonsem ma woho’” to wit clap hands for yourself. “Ahahaha,” he chuckled.
The Minority Leader came back, “Kofi who haven’t you insulted?" Then the response from Kofi Wayo, “I haven’t insulted my mother…You see, if you have intelligence, [you will note] I am not insulting, I’m telling you the truth, you are not used to the truth so what I say to you is so shocking and you consider it an insult. Is it an insult to tell you that you have not been able to provide water for the people? Is it an insult?"
The Minority Leader who is also the MP for Suame in the Ashanti Region said, “Oh that cannot be deemed, under any circumstance, to be insulting but those are not the words you normally use when you pour venom and vitriol on people.”
“Did you read the dictionary yesterday?, asked Mr Wayo, “because the heavy English you throw in I don’t understand.”
Some MPs Monday advocated the dragging of Mr Kofi Wayo before the Privileges Committee of the House to answer comments he made which are considered to be denigrating the House.
But the Minority Leader said the comments could be ignored because members of the House did not need to go “fishing and glorifying lunacy and idiocy.”
