The New Patriotic Party Youth Wing in the Northern Region has warned of a possible revenge in Tamale Central should the Regional Police Command fail to arrest and prosecute perpetrators of the February 17 clashes which left 27 houses burnt. According to the NPP youth wing families of the 27 houses have not received any form of compensation from the government six months after the gruesome incident which rendered most people homeless occurred. In an interview with Citi News, spokesperson for the Group, Bawa Abdul Jalil said although the families have reported severally to the regional security agencies, nothing has come out yet. They have therefore expressed discontent with the handling of the situation and are calling on the Regional Police Command to arrest and Prosecute the perpetrators whom he says are walking free amongst them in Tamale. “We are calling on the security agencies to openly come out and arrest these perpetrators who burnt the 27 houses belonging to our sympathizers in the Tamale Central constituency…up to date we have not seen any justice in this case”. “As we speak not even a single donation from the government to the victims…we are calling on the Security Council to act in order for peace to prevail…because there could be possible retaliation at any time if the perpetrators are not brought to book”. Meanwhile the Northern Regional Police Commander ACP Angwutubugi Awuni told Citi News that he is unaware of any such development in Tamale but has promised that his outfit would act accordingly should the information be brought to his notice.
