Four of the five aspirants vying for the presidential slot of the biggest opposition party, New Patriotic Party, have raised concerns about the party’s preparation towards its primaries.The party is set to have its first presidential congress on August 7, 2010 after major amendments were made to its constitution last year, which included the expansion of its electoral college whereby voters would all congregate at polling centres (constituencies) to simultaneously choose the presidential candidate for the 2012 general elections.But representatives of the four aspirants – Alan Kyerematen, Prof. Frimpong Boateng, lawyer Kofi Koduah and Isaac Osei – Wednesday organised a joint press conference questioning the party’s August 7th congress voter’s register.Joy FM’s Paa Kwesi Asare who covered the press conference said it also highlighted issues emanating from the aspirants' last meeting with members of the electoral committee of the party.The representatives claimed even though issues raised in that meeting are yet to be addressed, they have stumbled on a document containing the rules and regulations of the impending primary.They said the contents of the document are a clear departure from what was discussed and agreed on in the meeting.“Basically our interest is in creating a register that reflects the votes of all those who are eligible to vote. As the register stands, we don’t believe it is in a good state.“[Moreover], we don’t have clarity in terms of timeline and activities, and how we are going to end up with the register and when it will be due. We have crossed many deadlines and the register is still in limbo,” Mr Yaw Buabeng-Asamoah of the Alan Kyeremanten camp noted.It is however not clear why Nana Akufo Addo was not represented at the conference.Story by Isaac Essel/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
