Moslem leaders in Kumasi are blaming rising temperatures and prolonged drought on what they consider widespread sins of Ghanaians.
Farmers, especially, are feeling the pinch of the bad weather as their farms are destroyed, in some instances by wild fire.
National Deputy Chief Imam of Ahlussuna Waljama’a, Sheikh Mohammed Kamil who spoke on behalf of Moslem leaders at a special prayer event at Old Tafo in Kumasi Thursday warns the worst is yet to come if Ghanaians fail to repent.
The special event was to seek Gods’ favour for rains; Sheikh Kamil admonishes Ghanaians to change for a better Ghana.
“There is the need for us to repent and completely put a stop to the various sins we commit. Our dressing, gayism, corruption among others have negative impact on the nation”. Sheikh Kamil warned.
When the rains refuse to come, springs and canals dry up and water scarcity occurs.
The Prayer for Rain is similar to that of the Eid Prayer regarding its significant rulings.
It is desirable to perform it in an opened place; outside the mosque.
Its rulings are the same as those of the Eid Prayer, namely the number of Rak'ahs, the loud recitation of the Quran, being performed before delivering of the sermon.
Muslims believe prayers for Divine mercy in such situations makes a lot of difference. It is called Salatul Istisqa, prayer for rain.
“It is the teachings of Prophet Mohammed (SAW) to perform a special prayer in times like this. We wish Allah to answer our prayer” .He explained.
The absence of rain is the result of the sins of people and is a sign of Divine wrath and chastisement.
For the first timers who took part in the special congregational prayer, it was a privileged. 19-year old Zikrah Ahmed Asabe could not hold her excitement at the end of the prayer.
It is recommended that, after the prayer, every participant turns their attire inside out and go home with it.
