Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is the favourite to win the flagbearer position being contested by five hopefuls, a member of the Nana Addo campaign team, Dr Nyaho Tamakloe, has said.
The party goes to congress on August 7th to elect a presidential candidate in what analysts say would be a touch contest.
But speaking to Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme on Tuesday, Dr Tamakloe, also a leading member of the NPP, said all signs point a big win for Nana Addo.
“I can tell you confidently that there is no way anyone can beat him [Nana Addo] on the 7th of August,” Dr Tamakloe said, citing what he said has been massive grassroots support for Nana Addo during his nationwide tour to garner delegates' support.
Dr Tamakloe, a former Chief of Staff under the NPP, said the presidential hopeful had a lot to offer, describing his candidate as he best to lead the NPP.
The “majority” of the youth in the party support Nana Addo, Dr Tamakloe said citing his 30 years in politics as enough eye-opener in knowing where political support is going.
"The longer you stay in politics the more you know the routes and then you know exactly who wins an election," he said.
Splintered party post-August 7?
The biggest opposition party is going to be stronger after the August 7 congress, said Dr Tamakloe in response to a suggestion that the party is likely to see divisions.
The suggestion comes amid earlier contention by four flagbearer hopefuls that the voters register was not clean, a confusion which party chairman Jake Obetsebi Lamptey says has been completely dealt with.
