Some angry youth of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Tamale have stopped the auctioning of cars belonging to the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly, claiming proper procedures were not followed. The group, known as the Gbewa Youth, seized one car Thursday afternoon and are threatening to seize more cars.Joy FM’s Northern Regional correspondent Mahama Shaibu said the youth, numbering about 50, were been restrained by the police who were called in to maintain order but a stand-off ensued. As at late evening Thursday, the youth were contemplating leaving the premises of the assembly and return Friday or stay and confiscate all the vehicles.According to Mahama Shaibu, the youth said they got hint on Wednesday that the cars would be auctioned Thursday, and according to them, the assembly flouted laid-down procedure.A member of the group told Joy News that they stormed the premises because the officials of the assembly had failed to advertise the auction because they wanted to manipulate the process for their “selfish interest”.He alleged that the vehicles were auctioned to officials of the assembly. The Northern Regional Police PRO, Chief Inspector Ebenezer Tetteh, confirmed the disturbances to Joy News and said personnel were immediately "dispatched there and were able to put the place under control".
