Police in the Brong Ahafo region have begun investigations into the alleged death threat on the life of the Paramount chief of Kpassa in the Nkwanta North District.
The chief, Nana Konja VI, is said to have received anonymous calls threatening him to release a portion of land to the District Chief Executive (DCE), Martin Kudor, failing which he would be killed.
On Wednesday, March 9, Nana Konja claims he received an anonymous call from someone who said that he was calling from Koforidua.
According to him, the caller claimed that Kudor told them he bought a land from the chief’s brother, which he [chief] has taken away from him [Kudor] and resold it to someone else.
He said the anonymous caller told him, this act has angered the DCE and, therefore, contracted them to assassinate him [Nana Konja], his linguist and sub-chief as well as the chief of Worlesi.
According to Nana Konja when he asked the caller why the Worlesi chief had to be killed, the caller told him, he [Worlesi chief] knows the truth about the Gombila chieftaincy but has refused to voice it out.
Scared Nana Konja told Joy News’ Beatrice Adu that, the caller told him they had already come to survey his surrounding the previous week and their modus operandi was to inform their victims before they kill them.
Although the chief has notified the police about anonymous threatening call last Thursday he said he has not taken any security measures to forestall any attack.
However, the DCE denies hiring anyone to kill the Nana Konja VI.
Mr Kudor says he bought the land from Nana Konja’s brother in 2009 and another member of the family went ahead to sell the land to someone else.
The police won’t speak on the record but have said they have started investigations into the issue.
