After over a year-and-half of working, President John Evans Atta Mills will in a few days, take a short leave. He is expected to use the period of his leave to reflect on his performances and find ways of addressing the shortfalls in the implementation of the ‘Better Ghana’ agenda. Kofi Anyidoho, Communications Director at the presidency, during an interaction with the Presidential Press Corps on a wide range of issues at the weekend, confirmed that the President intended to take “a short leave”. He said date for the commencement of the leave would be announced soon, adding that the leave would last a maximum of two weeks. On whether the leave will not affect government business, Mr. Anyidoho said “although the President will be physically away from his office, he would be in constant touch to give directives. He will still be on top of issues.” He said “the President plans to spend part of his leave in the country, the rest in the United States of America with his relations.” Justifying the need for the President to take a break, Mr. Anyidoho said “the judiciary takes its annual legal vacation and parliament also goes on recess, it is not out of place for the President to also go on leave.” He said “after using the time to cool off, President Mills will come back refreshed and more energized to carry on his mandate of promoting the welfare of Ghanaians.” Touching on other issues, Mr. Anyidoho said President Mills was appreciative of the continuous support from other development partners, such as the media, in the drive for national development partners, adding that in spite of the many challenges, the President was determined to remain focused on his mandate and faithful to Ghanaians.
