Government has declared Friday March 25 and Monday, March 28, 2016 as public holidays.

In a statement signed by the Interior Minister Prosper Bani, the two days have been declared holidays to mark the Easter festivities.

“Friday, 25th March and Monday, 28th, 2016 which mark Good Friday and Easter Monday respectively, are statutory public holidays and should be observed as such,” the statement read.

Easter is a Christian festival for the celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead which happened on the third day of his burial as described in the New Testament of the Holy Bible.

Good Friday is part of the Easter festivities- a day for commemorating the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and his death at Calvary. In Ghana, Christians go to church to remember and mourn the death of Jesus Christ in black outfits.

Easter Sunday is the Sunday after Good Friday and Christians wear white to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Easter Monday is the day after Easter Sunday, and is declared a holiday in many countries. Many Christians seize this day to make merry and have family parties.
