The invasion of green snakes in Essienimpong, Kwaaso, and Piase towns near Ejisu in the Ashanti Region has left residents terrified and living in fear.
Speaking to Joy News' Erastus Asare Donkor, a resident explained that close to 300 of the green snakes were killed in about seven houses, Wednesday night at Essienimpong.
Three days ago, we killed about 54, and killed 8 yesterday. Although the lights were off last night, we managed to kill one that entered a room in this house, a woman said in her native Twi.
Although no snake bites have been recorded so far, residents say they cannot sleep.
I have been living in this town for over forty years and I haven’t seen anything like this, we have been keeping wake for the past three days, another resident indicated.
The invasion, according to the residents started three days ago and peaks between 7:00 and 8:00 pm each night.
The towns are surrounded by forest vegetation from which the residents believe the snakes come.
Erastus reported that “you can see dead snakes in gutters; some burnt and also at various refuse dumps in the towns and residents are scared to the core.”
The residents have called on authorities and experts to come to their aid.
