Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has implored delegates of the New Patriotic Party to elect a candidate who is not just popular but ‘‘morally authoritative’’ to lead the party for the 2012 elections.
In a statement issued on Thursday August 5, and signed by his Special Aide, Frank Agyekum, former President Kufuor called on delegates of the NPP to be “mindful of the good of the party and the nation as they prepare to vote for a flagbearer in Saturday’s election.
“My prayer is that the elections will be conducted in a free and fair manner, to result in the candidate not only being popular, but also morally authoritative.
“These attributes will facilitate in rallying the party into a united and winning force in the national elections, two years from now.”

PRESS STATEMENT BY H.E. JOHN AGYEKUM KUFUOR, FORMER PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF GHANA, ON THE NPP’S PRESIDENTIAL PRIMARIES ON SATURDAY 7TH AUGUST 2010
As delegates of the New Patriotic Party from all over the country prepare to cast their votes for the Party’s Presidential Candidate for 2012, l wish them to be mindful of the good of the Party and our nation.
My prayer is that the elections will be conducted in a free and fair manner, to result in the candidate not only being popular, but also morally authoritative. These attributes will facilitate in rallying the Party into a united and winning force in the national elections, two years hence.
I congratulate all the aspirants for the worthy campaign they have conducted so far and hope that who ever emerges the winner, the rest will render their unstinting support to him. I wish them all the best. The Party needs them all.
Thank you.
