Factions in the Bunkpurugu Yunyoo conflict have met for the first time in many years to initiate steps towards peace building.

A protracted chieftaincy conflict between the Jamong and the Jafouk gates in the Northern regional town of Bunkpurugu has claimed many lives and destroyed countless properties.

Joy News, a few weeks ago produced a detailed documentary on the disturbances there and highlighted how education, health and all forms of activities had halted as a result of the conflict.

The two gates now say they are tired of the killings and are ready for peace.

Joy News' Seth Kwame Boateng who produced the “Brothers at War” said a programme was organised to bring the two factions together at the District Assembly Conference Hall, Friday.

The purpose he said was to find out from the two factions what to do to bring about peace.

During the meeting it was observed that those who lived outside Bunkpurugu were the ones who on countless occasions instigated those living in Bunkpurugu to fight amongst each other.

Members of the factions then hugged each other to symbolise peace and unity.

There was a football match where the factions formed one team to play against security personnel in the area.

The two factions used the occasion to deliver peace messages.

To climax activities for unity, there is supposed to be blood burial where animals, sheep, cattle, dogs will be cut into two and buried.

According to the leaders of the two factions the blood burial will cement the peace process and anyone who foments trouble after the blood burial will be killed by the gods.
