The Police Criminal Investigations Department and Homicide Unit have taken over investigations into the murder of Chief of Sota who was shot together with two others, Sunday, March 20.
Speaking to Joy News, the Dodowa Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Kwasi-Ofori noted that this will ensure a speedy investigation into the incident that led to the death of the three.
Nene Kpetutu, his son and a family head, were shot and killed by some unknown gunmen in a Toyota Corolla vehicle on the Afienya-Dodowa road in the Greater Accra region.
Eyewitnesses say the two gunmen used an unregistered yellow and black motorbike for the operation.
They followed the vehicle, crossed it and ordered the chief who was then driving to stop. They shot and killed him and the others at Mango Tsonya near Dodowa and fled, eyewitnesses said.
Wife of the late chief told Joy News that her husband, Nene Teiko Kpetutu, had been threatened by some family members and others for refusing to append his signature on some land documents they [family members] had sold.
Although Teye said her husband did not reveal the names of those threatening him, she strongly believes his death is related to land disputes.
Another son of the late chief, Stephen Kweku Teye also believes his father was killed over land issues.
But Chief Superintendent Kwesi Ofori said the Police will not rule out the allegations made by the family of the deceased.
“We have listened to them [the family], we are working in partnership with them. And whatever they have told us we are keeping it in confidence to advance on it to enable us to identify the perpetrators,” he indicated.
He said the CID has initiated an investigation with the Dodowa Division as eyewitnesses have been contacted to help identify the perpetrators and bring them to book.
He appealed to the general public to open up to the police on any information that can lead to the arrest of the perpetrators to help speed up the investigation.
