Madam Josephine Ndakah, a 50-year old woman from Elubo, at the weekend, placed first in a literacy competition organized by the Jomoro District Non-Formal Education Division (NFED) for selected learners at Half Assini.
She beat six other women contestants drawn from Half Assini, New Town, Beyin, Tikobo Number One and Two, Takinta and New Nzulezo in reading, writing and numeracy.
Madam Ndakah was presented with five reading books, two exercise books, a rain coat and a radio set as her prize.
Madam Georgina Benson, a 41-year old woman from Beyin, who placed second, received four reading books, two exercise books, a rain coat and a radio set.
Madam Rebecca Ackah, 37, from Half Assini, came third and was presented with three reading books, two exercise books, a rain coat and a lantern.
The remaining contestants were presented with consolation prizes.
Speaking at the function, Mr. William Somiah, the District Coordinator of NFED, said the Regional Literacy Competition would be held at Bogoso, on August 13 this year.
He expressed concern that some learners regularly absent themselves from classes and urged learners to try to be punctual at all times.
