Snakes are still invading homes, schools and hospitals after fumigation by environmental officers at Essienimpong, Kwaso, and Piase close to Ejisu in the Ashanti Region.

Close to 40 snakes has been killed by residents in Essienimpong alone within the last three days.

Environmental officers from the Ejisu Municipal Assembly fumigated drains and bushes in the Kwaaso and Essienimpomg localities in an attempt to repel the reptiles, but that seems to have failed.

The residents were optimistic hope was on the horizon when their communities were fumigated last week.

One resident told Joy News, “the snakes did not stop plaguing us since the fumigation exercise on last Friday. The very day of the fumigation we killed six snakes later that evening. On Saturday, we killed four and another 19 on Sunday.” 

Students of the Rural Development College at Kwaso told Joy News’ Erastus Asare Donkor, they are living in fear as the reptiles invade their dormitories and classrooms every evening.

A student found a snake hiding in his trousers which have compelled the students to request for torchlight and wellington boots to protect themselves when the lights go off.
