A state-owned youth training school located at Issa in the Dafiama-Bussie-Issa district in the Upper West region faces closure due to the failure of government to release its share of the feeding grant.

School officials of the Issa Youth Training Institute (IYTI), have for months been unable to access the government subsidy from the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

According to the Principal of the institute, Zor-Kplenu Ede Zico, the school will not be reopened as scheduled  for the second term if the government fails to release the money to them.

“For the past five terms no feeding grant has been released to us and it is making the administration of the school very difficult”, he said.

Issa Youth Training Institute was established  some 22 years ago to give training to the youths in the Upper West region. The institute has a current student population of 173 drawn from homes labeled less privileged.

However, Mr. Ede Zico says the school is not in the position to meet the nutritional requirements of the students, hence the decision to close the school until such a time when the government will release the feeding grant.

JOYNEWS Upper West regional correspondent, Rafik Salam reports school authorities are at their wits end as food suppliers chase them for payment which is running into thousands of cedis.
