Wyclef Jean says he will continue to fight to stand in Haiti's election despite receiving death threats.
Speaking from a hideout in his hometown of Lassere, the hip-hop star said he had moved to a place where he felt "secure" and "comfortable" after receiving phone calls threatening to kill him unless he left Haiti.
"We know that the situation that we have embarked on, you know, death threats comes with the territory," he said.
Haiti's provisional electoral council had been due to finalise the list of candidates on Tuesday but has postponed it until Friday.
Jean said he and his legal team had made sure all the requirements had been met.
"Every piece of paper that the electoral council have asked for, we have delivered - everything.
"So this delay of announcing the candidacy is not on our part because we have given everything possible."
But there are questions over whether the former Fugees star is eligible to stand for the presidency.
Haiti's electoral law requires candidates to have lived in the country for five consecutive years.
Jean left his homeland aged nine to go to the US where he launched and developed his international music career.
But he believes his appointment as a roving ambassador by President Rene Preval in 2007 exempts him from the residency requirement.
"The issue of residency, we have proof, five years," Jean said.
Despite being admired by many Haitians who see him as a celebrity who never forgot his roots, Jean knows he is not the frontrunner.
"I think my candidacy is a wild card for the entire Haiti, every candidate, senator, deputy.
"I even think it's a wild card for the international community in general."
