The Inspector General of Police John Kudalor is likely to appear before the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament Tuesday to answer allegations of police assault of officials of the community water and sanitation programme.
The police boss will appear in the company of the Interior Minister who will also address issues of internal security in the country, Joy News' Parliamentary correspondent Elton John Brobbey reported.
Deputy Local Government Minister Emmanuel Agyekum who appeared before the committee Monday said water bills of police personnel in some districts have piled up because water company officials are unable to collect the bills from the police officers.
According to him, his men are either intimidated, arrested and put into custody by police officers merely because they demanded the bills from defaulting police personnel.
For fear of being arrested, the personnel of the community water and sanitation do not carry out that constitutional duty at all.
According to the 2011 audited accounts of the community water and sanitation development board, consumers owe over 74 thousand cedis.
The amount represents accumulated bill covering living quarters of some officers which has been outstanding for years now.
Responding to an audit query before the public accounts committee, the deputy Local Government minister, Emmanuel Agyekum said they have decided to proceed to court to recover the monies owed them.
"We have asked all the boards in Ghana to try and pursue the clients in court so we can recover our monies.
"We have problem with police. Our officers are doing their best but sometime they are pursued when they go to collect their bills, the Deputy Minister said.
The Chair of the Committee Kweku Agyemang Manu did not take kindly to the action of the police and demanded to find out from the Deputy Minister what he has done to stop the misconduct.
He said the action is nothing more than an abuse of incumbency.
He said the committee will give an extract to the IGP to caution his men in order for them to stop that.
