One person died while five others, including a pregnant woman sustained various degrees of injury when their rooms collapsed as a result of torrential rain in the Northern Regional capital, Tamale.
The deceased, named only as Abukari from Kakpag-Yili, a suburb of Tamale, died instantly but his mother escaped death and is currently at the Tamale Hospital receiving treatment.
Joy News’ Northern Regional Correspondent, Mahama Sayibu reports that at the time he visited the hospital, Thursday morning, the injured were at the X-Ray department for proper examination of the extent of their injuries.
Also on admission, according to Mahama Sayibu, was a boy who was buried under the rubble of a collapsed room in which he was sleeping.
Family members say a piece of his cloth helped rescuers locate and rescue him.
A midwife at the hospital, Hajia Mari Kadiri, told Joy News the pregnant woman had to be operated on to remove the baby.
She said the baby was healthy but that the woman could not walk.
Still on flood related deaths, Joy FM's Upper East Regional Correspondent, Joseph Osei, reports that at least five deaths have been recorded as a result of the opening of the spillways of the Bagre Dam coupled with unceasing rains.
