The Ghana Education Service says it does not intend to change the reopening date for fresh Senior High School students. While continuing students resumed Monday, fresh students are to be admitted on the 15th of October, however the conference of heads of assisted schools have asked for a postponement, citing lack of accommodation facilities for the fresh students. But head of public affairs at the GES, Mr. Charles Parker Allotey says that may not be necessary. “We think that there is no point holding our children at home when we have almost finished with the placement exercise,” he told Joy News. Reacting to the grounds for the extension requested by CHASS, Mr Allotey said “as far as we are concerned work has been going on in almost all the schools, they are in various stages of development. And come October we think that even if they are not ready, contingency arrangements may be put in place so that we are able to hold classes in an unimpeded manner.” But CHASS is not excited at the seeming indecision on the part of GES. Its President, Samuel Ofori Adjei, insists some schools may be affected if the date for the admission of fresh students is not pushed forward. Source: Joy News/Ghana
