The Executive Secretary of the Ghana Lands Commission, Dr. Wilfred K. Anim-Odame has addressed dignitaries at the London School of Economics on land markets development for cities growth in Africa.

The three-day event which was under the International Growth Centre (IGC) is to promote sustainable growth in developing countries by providing demand-led policy advice based on frontier research.

It also brought together an international network of world-leading researchers, institutional partners and policymakers globally. The conference indeed, features a series of presentations on top level economic growth research, regional policy sessions and public lectures.

Dr. Wilfred K. Anim-Odame was one of the key speakers at the land and infrastructure Session. Dr. Anim-Odame delivered a presentation on “Land markets development for cities growth in Africa”.

 He established a strong connection between three thematic areas – sustainable land administration, participatory land use planning and infrastructure investment – as a vehicle for cities growth. 

The Lands Commission boss observed that by every measure of infrastructure coverage, African countries lag behind their peers in other parts of the developing world. He advised that urban planning should guide cities growth and the associated infrastructure needs.

Dr. Anim-Odame highlighted on a number of interventions in Ghana to address land administration challenges such as countless land service procedures, unregulated systems and unsystematic records.

According to him the Lands Commission has successfully completed re-engineering of its business processes which has culminated in the establishment of one-stop-shop land service delivery in the Ghana for the first time.

Next on the agenda is the development of Ghana Enterprise Land Information Systems to eventually offer the Lands Commission a digital platform to deliver land services in the country. We are strongly committed to deliver this platform very soon he concluded.
