A Tarkwa Circuit court has sentenced two unemployed persons to 15 years imprisonment each in hard labour, for robbery and conspiracy to commit crime.
The convicts, Daniel Asibi, 20, (alias Rashid) and Gordon Ninson, 22, pleaded guilty to the charges.
Prosecuting, Detective Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah, told the court, presided over by Mr Justice Emmanuel Bart-Plange Brew, that the complainant, Afari Kingsley, is a security officer with the INPATMUS Ghana Limited, a mining firm, in the Western Region.
He said the convicts together with Mohammed, Abu and Frenchman, currently at large, were former employees of the company.
He said on February 3, last year, while the complainant was on duty at the company’s premises Daniel, Gordon, Mohammed, Abu and Frenchman attacked him with offensive weapons and took away two pump action guns, two galaxy mobile phones, multi-digital decoder and cash of ¢3,000.00 and fled from the town.
However, on February 15 the police, acting upon a tip-off, arrested Daniel at his hide-out at Tamani, near Zebilla in the Upper East Region.
According to the prosecutor, Daniel admitted the offence upon interrogation and indicated that the stolen items including the money were shared after the operation and he received ¢2,200.00.
The convict stated that Gordon and Mohammed took away the pump action guns.
Gordon was also arrested later at Hiawa in the Wassa Amenfi East District and a search conducted in his room retrieved the Pump Action gun.
The court had issued a bench warrant for the arrest of Mohammed, Abu and Frenchman.
