Fisher folks at Mensah Guinea, a fishing community in the Greater Accra Region have lamented the negative impact of environmental pollution on their catch.
According to them, waste materials such as plastic bags which are dumped on the beach by some residents end up in the sea thereby destroying their nets when fishing.
This, the residents believe has resulted in the low catch they have been recording lately.
Speaking to Joy news, one of the residents said usually during a heavy downpour, food waste and plastic materials are washed into the sea from Accra Central.
"These materials end up destroying our net which also affect our catch," he said.
Another resident by name Kofi Lantei also disclosed some residents of the Ga King Shorna are to be blamed for their recent predicament.
He said, “I see them in the evening sneak to dump their refuse along the beach and some in the sea with impunity.”
The situation, Lantei said is worsening because the waste management company, ZOIL which is in-charge of the cleaning of the beach, has refused to show up for work these days.
The residents contend without assistance from the government, they will end up losing their livelihood.
