The Member of Parliament (MP) for Tamale South constituency, Haruna Iddrisu, has come to the rescue of candidate writing the ongoing Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in his constituency.
Mr Iddrisu who also doubles as the Minister for Employment and Labour Relations provided the service to shuttle candidates as part of measures to help avoid a situation where some might miss out on some papers considering that the calendar has coincided with the raining season.
The BECE which started on Monday, June 13 and ends on Friday, 17 has become a challenge for most candidates in the rural areas especially. While some are battling with study materials and readying themselves, others have the distance and access to their exams centres to think of.

In some communities, students have to cross lakes in canoes while others have to walk for hours to get to their centres.
The MP has provided a free vehicle to convey the candidates to and from their examination centers. The move is aimed at facilitating an early arrival of candidates at their respective centers ahead of the papers and convey them back home to prepare for the next paper.
An aide to the legislator, Abdul Jalil Ibrahim, disclosed to journalists in Tamale that the MP is concerned about education in the constituency and therefore has over a period invested in that sector to improve performance.
“From his share of the Common Fund, a number of school building have been constructed and study desks also provided to ensure that teaching and learning are done in a very conducive environment,” he said.
