A mother and her daughter who was to sit her final BECE have been burnt to death in a domestic fire at Santasi, a suburb of Kumasi in the Ashanti regional.
Another young lady, 21-year old Abena was also burnt to death, Nhyira FM’s Asenso Mensah has told Joy News Friday.
The fire began in the kitchen at about 1am Friday dawn. The victims were in a room and could only escape by passing through the kitchen where the fire raged.
They remained trapped until the fire extended to the room where they were.
According to the reporter, the bodies were charred beyond recognition.
The mother, Akosua Danquah, is a 53-year old waakye seller who has a work hand 21-year old Abena living with her.
Her 17-year old daughter, Lydia, was to sit her last paper at the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) at the Fankyenekor preparatory school.
According to a resident, the fire incident is the third to have happened in the house. She explained to the Nhyira FM reporter that thieves often break into the storeroom when the mother has gone to purchase supplies for the business.
She said thieves set fire to the storeroom after making away with their booty. Police investigations have identifed a gallon of disel close to the storeroom.
