The five-year-old girl who was defiled by her cousin has undergone a successful surgery at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi.
Doctors say a tumor was found in the private parts of the little girl which hindered her ability to pass urine or waste.
The health of the little girl identified only as Afia was deteriorating after a relative, believed to be a cousin, defiled her weeks ago.
The suspect, Kofi Dapaah, 19, who was taking care of her, was reported to have had sex with her on countless occasions in the absence of her parents.
The victim was diagnosed with Cystitis, an infection of the bladder, which made it difficult for her to walk or pass waste.
After a first successful surgery Thursday, doctors are waiting for two weeks for the wounds to heal to see if she would be able to control the urine and waste. Afia will need about GH¢15,000.00 for surgeries and treatment.
A pathologist at the hospital will determine whether the tumor is cancerous or noncancerous.
This would take about a month but the head of the Pediatric Unit at KATH, Dr. Micheal Amoah, says he is working around the clock to get it done soon.
She might undergo another surgery if she still can't control her urinary system.
Afia will, however, go through another treatment alongside the surgery.
A good Samaritan has been taking care of Afia from the time she was first admitted at the St. Patrick Hospital at Offinso. Speaking to Joy News on grounds of anonymity the person said Afia needs all the financial assistance she could get from the general public.
Meanwhile, Dapaah has been sentenced to 24 years imprisonment for defilement.
