The Eastern Regional Minister, Mr Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo has said that, the government would soon absorb 70 per cent of the registration fees of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), for students in both the public and private schools.
He said the aim, in addition to other interventions that had been made, was meant to make education accessible to all, in line with government’s policy.
Mr Ofosu-Ampofo was speaking at this year’s Abedru festival and fund-raising harvest of the chiefs and people of Akrade, in the Asuogyaman District, at the weekend.
He said the priority of the government was to make life a little more comfortable for Ghanaians, especially the youth, so that they could all contribute their quota to the development of the country.
Mr Ofosu-Ampofo appealed to traditional authorities in the Asuogyaman district to promote peace to help the area to attract investors and create employment for the youth.
He said government had decided to provide street light for all district capitals, as part of measures being introduced, to ensure maximum security for the citizens.
The Regional Minister appealed to the electorate to take active interest in the up-coming District Assembly elections and vote for people, who have their communities at heart.
Nana Okrukata, chief of New Akrade, called on the minister to bring more investments and development to the area.
