The Greater Accra President of the Tertiary Education Institutions Network (TEIN) of the National Democratic Congress, Dr David Sunu says members of the network have not in anyway been incited by comments made by Dr Ekwow Spio-Gabrah against the party at their organized workshop. He explained that members of TEIN are of independent minds and not pliable to be swayed by statements by the NDC vice chairperson. They would also not swallow anything without analysing it, adding that statements made by speakers at their seminars are opinions held personally by the speakers which are not necessarily shared by TEIN members. He hinted that as a formality, the Greater Accra TEIN will issue a communiqué to advise on the issue. His comments come in the wake of allegations of disregarding a directive from the National Youth Organizer of the NDC not to go ahead with the said workshop. He was speaking with Adakabre Frimpong Manso on Adom FM's DWASO NSEM morning show to react to the allegations and whether or not the group has been incited by Dr. Spio-Gabrah’s comments as has been suggested by a Deputy Information Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa. The Deputy Information Minister has accused the first National Vice- Chairman, Ekwow Spio-Garbrah of inciting the NDC youth against President Mills.According to Ablakwa, Mr Spio-Garbrah organized a “clandestine meeting” of the NDC youth to malign the sitting president. On why the group disregarded the National Youth Organizer’s directive, Dr David Sunu said the claim should be treated with the contempt it deserves, noting that in running political party activities, the media is not used to issue notifications to party members and groups on things you want them to do or otherwise, and therefore did not see where that allegation is coming from since party business is not carried out in the media. He also explained that though TEIN wrote to invite some national party executives and the national youth organizer, nobody attended. He insisted that there was no official communication asking the group not to hold the workshop.According to Sunu, historically, TEIN by its mandate has been semi-autonomous and did not per se need an authorization to hold a workshop. On suggestions that he Dr Sunu is out of school and does not qualify to hold any position in TEIN, he explained that, he has every right to lead a TEIN group, and for anybody to make that suggestion depicts that fellow’s limited understanding of the structures of TEIN. He therefore did not see anything clandestine about the holding of the workshop, noting that it is the first time a national youth organizer had tried to direct a TEIN group in such a manner, an action he said was misplaced procedurally.Story by Adom FM/Ghana
