The Chief Executive of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly(AMA), Dr. Alfred Oko Vanderpuije, has given an ultimatum to landlords/ladies, owners of offices, restaurants, and hotels to provide toilet and sanitation facilities to tenants and visitors before October 2011 or face prosecution.Dr. Vanderpuije disclosed this in an interview with Asempa News on the occasion of World Toilet Day which was observed on Friday November 19th 2010.Dr. Vanderpuije said although the Assembly does not have any event to mark the day, they are doing their best to improve toilet and sanitation in Accra.Dr. Vanderpuye said the AMA has an order from the courts to stop (night carriers) the disposing of toilet from homes at night. He noted that although the Assembly is doing its best to curb this practice, there are a few who still engage in this act.He also disclosed that AMA is building about 43 water closet toilets within the Accra Metropolis to help curb the stress that people go through when they are in town.Story by Jennifer Benewaa/Yaa Asantewaa/Asempa News
