Ghana’s hope at this year’s MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMAs), Sarkodie, failed to clinch the Best Anglophone award he was nominated for. He lost to Daddy Owen of Kenya.
That category also had Wande Coal from Nigeria and Big Nuz from South Africa and it was a bitter loss for the young Ghanaian who was hopeful of stepping in the shoes of compatriot, Samini who won the 2009 Best Performer at the same awards last year.
Sarkodie nevertheless proved to the world his worth when he delighted the hundreds at the venue with his iconic fast flow rap in a collaborative performance with Chuck D and Mo Cheddah.
The star-studded awards night was held at Eko Expo Hall, Lagos Saturday night and not only did some of the biggest names of African music attend and performed, the show also witnessed some exciting performances from Rick Ross, T-Pain and Eve.
Other performers included 2Face (Nigeria), Fally Ipupa (DRC), Barbara Kanam (DRC), Chuck D, Mo Cheddah (Nigeria), Banky W (Nigeria) and a host of others.
Nigeria walked away with five awards with 2 Face bagging two of those awards; Artiste of the Year and Best Male.
Other winners include; Fally Ipupa (DRC), Mo Cheddah (Nigeria), Liquideep (South Africa), Daddy Owen (Kenya) and a Miriam Makeba who was given the Legend Award.
