Aqua Vitens Rand is asking consumers not to be alarmed by reports that the Weija Lake is contaminated.Today’s edition of the Public Agenda newspaper reported of pollution of the lake by fiscal and liquid waste from landfill sites around the lake. However, Director of communications at Aqua Vitens Rand, Stanley Martey says the water is properly treated before it is distributed. He told Joy News the water they produce meets World Health Organisation standards and requirement of the Ghana Standards Board.Mr Martey said the company’s investigations reveal that the polluted water reported by the newspaper does not affect the main Weija Dam.“This pollution happens beyond or after the dam so it does not affect the dam itself,” he said.He however conceded the dam is polluted upstream around the Nsawam area.Source: Joy News/Ghana
