The Black Maidens of Ghana suffered the heartbreak of conceding with the virtually the last kick of their quarterfinal game in Jordan against Korea DPR.
This was after the team had fought back from a goal down to pull level.
However the back stories after the game are more depressing. The Maidens demonstrated such bravery in the midst of difficulties as they had to deal with severe financial constraints as they had to do wash their own clothes before and after matches.
Member of the Women’s League Board, Rosalind Amoh, confirmed on Pulse on the Joy News Channel the difficulties the ladies went through as they were virtually abandoned in Jordan.
"They did not have the best of preparations but yet they overcame this to get into the quarterfinals."
"How can a team travel without impress? Their bonuses or allowances have not even been paid."
"The fact that they don’t have money for laundry is a bother. The girls who are concentrating on a match now have to wash their own dresses because there is no money to pay for laundry services."
"Every team travels with an impress and that deals with laundry and other issues. Once we do not want to pile our bills, so the welfare officer will now have to supervise the girls to wash."
"It was the Ministry’s responsibility to provide the money to the team. The FA prepares a budget."
The team are expected in Ghana by close of weekend.
