The Ghana international scored but it was not enough to save Lorient from defeat against Stade Rennes.
Majeed Waris found his scoring boot but Lorient exited the French League Cup on Wednesday as they lost 3-2 at Rennes.
Waris kept his cool to convert a penalty past Benoît Costil in goal for Rennes, following a Sylvain Armand handball to halve the deficit.
Rennes took the lead through Brazilian Pedro Henrique scored from pointblank range in the 16th minute and Wesley Saïd added the second just before the hour.
Wesley Lautoa equalised in the second minute of injury time after Costil missed a long free-kick.
But in the 95th minute, Pedro Henrique scored his second of the night to cap a man-of-the-match performance to seal win for Rennes.
The goal comes as good news for Black Stars coach Avram Grant, who will be counting on his top striker to deliver in the crunch encounter against Egypt.
Ghana will play as guest of the Pharaohs in Alexandria next month, with only a win needed to get their World Cup qualifier back on the right track.
