The nominees for the 2011 edition of the African Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) were released at a grand party at the Laico Regency Hotel in Nairobi, Kenya on February 25. While the African movie scene has received the nominations with open arms, IJE, a movie tagged as one of Africa’s all time best movies did not receive even a single nomination. Many have tagged the movie as a big break in the Nigerian and African due to its excellent scripting, writing and productions and the fusion of two of Nigerian’s finest actresses, Genevieve Nnaji and Omotola Jalade Ekeinde. The movie alone has received several nominations and laurels outside the African continent including Best Editing at the Treasure Coast International Film Festival 2010 and Best International Student Film at the Swansea Bay Film Festival 2010. According to Nigerianfilms.com, a source told them that the producers of the movie did not submit the movie for nomination when organizers opened nominations. AMAA awards heavily depends on submission by original owners of movie works and organizers cannot nominate any movie without the producer’s entry submission and approval. The source told Nigerianfilms.com that, “It’s not like the AMAA organizers have anything in particular against the movie, other than the fact that it failed to meet up with the selection requirements.” “Again AMAA is an award scheme and not a festival where there are appointed curators who prospect films. To be nominated, actors must feature in a movie that is duly entered for, the movie starring them must be seen by the Board of International Juror and must have passed through the five stages of pre-selection, the last being the College of Screeners,” the source added. Producer of the movie, Chineze Anyaeze, admitted to Nigerianfilms.com that the movie wasn’t submitted for reasons best known to her; reasons she termed ‘Professional’.
