Hundreds of NDC supporters Tuesday thronged the party’s headquarters to show solidarity with the former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings who took her first step to become the NDC’s presidential candidate for the 2012 general elections when she picked her nomination forms.
She thus becomes the first person to pick the nominations forms after the party declared the campaign opened last month.
In the company of two of her daughters, Mrs Rawlings arrived at the party’s headquarters at about 10:20 to a dancing crowd of enthusiastic NDC fanatics.
NDC General Secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketiah who presented the forms to her said after the party announced the date for the congress, “my Office has since been preparing and keeping ourselves ready for the event”.
He read out parts of the rules and regulations governing the processes after Mrs Ralwings had paid the GHS500 cash for the forms.
“We have the form in duplicate, she would be completing the two and returning both of them to us for certification, after which one would be handed over to her for her records, and then we will be processing the original copy.”
The nomination pack the party presented her also included the notice of election and other processes leading to the congress scheduled for July 8-10 in Sunyani.
Even though the filling fees for the presidential candidate was pegged at GHS20,000, Mrs Rawlings would be expected to pay a non-refundable banker's draft of GHS10,000 as a rebate for female aspirants.
