Former Deputy Sports Minister in the erstwhile Kufour administration, Osei Bonsu Amoah has said the National Democratic Congress (NDC's) accusations that the national chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) misused funds meant for families of victims of the May 9 staduim disaster is just cheap propaganda.According to him, Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey has nothing to do with the funds because the one in charge of the fund was Mr. J.S Addo, former Governor of the Bank of Ghana who is also Chairman of the May 9 Staduim Disaster Relief Fund Management Committee.The NDC in a statement issued in Accra, Monday May 9, called on the anti-corruption agencies in the country to investigate Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey, then as Minister of Presidential Affairs, over his handling of the donations meant for families of victims of the May 9 stadium disaster.The NDC believes Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey, as the Chief of Staff when the disaster occurred, must account for the money.But on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Monday, the deputy Sports Minister expressed shock at the ruling party’s decision to blame the chairman of the opposition NPP after ten years.He said the NDC in their statement did not mention Mr. J.S Addo who was the chairman of the committee but chose to blame the chairman of the NPP for political reasons just to ‘muddy the waters’.O.B. Amoah revealed that the committee each year, renders accounts to the government on how the funds are disbursed to the families of the victims.He recalled as the deputy sports minister in 2005, the committee rendered accounts to him covering how much money they had earned and spent.He urged the NDC to rather invite Mr. J.S Addo, because he would be the right person to render accounts.The NPP MP for Aburi-Nsawam however expressed worry about how every issue in the country is being politicized.Monday May 9, 2011 marked the tenth anniversary of the May 9 Staduim disaster that claimed 126 lives.Story by: Adwoa Gyasiwaa/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
