The National Democratic Congress Member of Parliament for Upper Manya Krobo, Stephen Amoano Kwao says anyone intending to contest him in the primaries should wage a clean campaign to avoid disuniting the party at the constituency.Amoano Kwao who doubles as a Minster of State in charge of Pensions, told Aempa News parochial interests have led some persons interested in his seat to start all sorts of propaganda to malign him.The attitude, he noted has the tendency to divide and destroy the party but since after the primaries, all hands will be required for an NDC victory, it would not augur well to sustain such negative campaigning. He said he was sure his outstanding performance at the constituency for the past ten years will see him through the campaign.Responding to alleged recent violence in his constituency, he said all the allegations leveled against him were mere propaganda by his detractors. His opponents accuse him of organising a mob to destroy property at the party's constituency office, but he explained that the youth who went to the constituency office only intended to clean the name of an aspirant but later an opponent entered the premises to break four chairs at the Constituency so that he, (Amoano Kwao) would be blamed for it.He also denied organizing the youth to go on rampage in the constituency.
The MP said he has the full support of his constituents and that, he believes his critics were jealous of that; adding he has the support of the people due to the numerous development projects he has initiated over the years. He mentioned some of his achievements as school buildings, sponsorship for secondary and tertiary level students, water projects, support for football clubs, a modern mortuary and doctors’ bungalow for the Asesewa Hospital, catering for the running of constituency office as well as helping hundreds to benefit from NYEP among other things. He denied being rejected by the people of Upper Manya Krobo.Story by Yaa Asantewaa/Asempa News
