Mr Alex Opare, Akyem Oda Constituency Deputy Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has assured rural communities that the Government would not renege on its campaign promises. “Government will continue to provide you with good drinking water, accessible roads, electricity supply and good infrastructure to promote quality teaching and learning,” he said. Mr Opare said this when he presented free school uniforms on behalf of Ms Ophelia Koomson , the Birim Central Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), to pupils at Manso Odumase, Asibrim, Apinto , Mante, Adukrom, Moffram, Nsuafua and Badukrom Local Authority Primary schools on Tuesday. Other beneficiary pupils were from Appeadam, Suponso Onomabo, Kyeremase, Essam, Tabita, Osenho, Kwakukwaa and Oboyambo Primary Schools all in the Birim Central Municipality. Mr Opare said the school uniforms as well as the Capitation Grant were interventions to ensure that quality education did not only become affordable but also accessible to all. He appealed to parents to take advantage of those interventions to enrol their children in school. Mr Opare appealed to teachers to guard against acts that tended to undermine teaching and learning in rural schools to enable the children to compete favourably with their counterparts in the urban centres. Mr David Afram, the Municipal Director of Education, said teachers had played pivotal roles in the implementation of new educational reforms. He reminded teachers that they were expected to exhibit a new sense of commitment and zeal in their calling to make government’s educational policies succeed. Mr Afram said the government would continue to dialogue with the leadership of teachers towards improving their conditions of service. Source: GNA
