The Research Advocacy Platform of the ruling national Democratic Congress has described as absolute lies, figures put out by the Minority in Parliament which is purported to be the cost of the Embraer 190, one of a number of jets the government plans to procure for the Ghana Armed Forces.
Spokesperson of the group, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, told the media in Accra on Thursday that the Minority’s attempts to impugn corruption in the purchase of the jets are an affront to the credibility of the Defense Minister and other experts who have assessed the needs of the military.
The NPP MPs in parliament, on Wednesday, said their investigations into the purchase of the jet revealed that the price quoted by the manufacturer was way below the $105 million being the total cost put out by the government.
But the Research Advocacy Platform said the Minority got it all wrong. According to the group, the NPP’s source of information was based on a different website, and not from the official website of the manufacturer as the NPP claimed.
“The NPP MPs after committing this blunder and making mockery of themselves, then sought to create the impression that they obtained information about the price of the Embraer 190 SAA, from an official website of the manufacturer.
“The falsehood peddled by the NPP becomes manifest when one visits the official website of the manufacturer of the Embraer 190 aircraft - WWW.embraer.com - which makes absolutely no mention of the basic price of the aircraft [the NPP wants Ghanaians to believe],” Felix Kwakye Ofosu noted.
