The Police in Kumasi have granted bail to the Supervisor of the 31st Day Care Center at Adum, after she was arrested for allegedly canning a female colleague. Rebecca Quaye reportedly beat up 54-year-old Victoria Adu-Gyamfi whom she accused of gossiping about her with another worker. Medical reports suggest the alleged assault on the Kindergarten teacher has taken a toll on her health. A report from the Kumasi South Hospital sighted by Nhyira News says the victim was hit on the head, resulting in streak of blood in the nostrils, scalp and neck. According to Madam Adu Gyamfi, she was in a discussion with her colleague when the supervisor attacked her. She said Madam Quaye pushed her together with a pupil, canned and threatened to kill her. Nhyira News investigations suggest that owners of the school have been intimidating Madam Adu-Gyamfi for refusing to accept out-of-court settlement of the assault case. An undated letter from the Regional Coordinator of the 31st December Women’s Movement, has given her three days to explain why she should not be punished for fighting on duty. It however did not name the person Madam Adu Gyamfi is supposed to have fought with. “I was discussing the Reverend Minister who committed suicide with someone else. I turned around to respond when she called my name. Suddenly, she started beating me amidst accusation that she will kill me; silence me because I am too pompous in the school. "She insulted me for being too short amidst accusations that I have been casting insinuations about her,” Madam Adu Gyamfi explained. According to her, her supervisor threatened her severally. ”In fact she gave me several strokes of canes. I could not even count them. She lashed me and also insulted me like her son”. Medical experts say the canning has affected her health. “The effects of the canning on me has been very enormous Pains all over; my head, neck and ear. They all ache”. But police say Madam Quaye denies the allegations, while investigations continue. Public Relations Officer, Chief Inspector Yussif Mohammed Tanko who confirmed the story tells Nhyira Fm police investigations are underway. Story by: Ohemeng Tawiah, Nhyira Fm-Kumasi, Ghana
