The recent cordial relationship between former Presidents Jerry John Rawlings and John Agyekum Kufuor was reawakened as the two statesmen exchanged pleasantries at the maiden edition of the Legends and Legacy Ball which honoured highlife great, Daddy Lumba.
The cordiality between the two was first given new life when Mr. Kufuor invited Mr. Rawlings to the launch of the Kufuor foundation which the latter honoured.
Prior to that, there had been verbal antagonism between the two as they each used various platforms to call each other names.
Outside of the antagonism, the two leaders had shared pleasantries on a number of platforms, but Saturday’s meeting at the Legends and Legacy Ball was exceptional as the two danced to the music of Daddy Lumba.
Former President Kufuor and former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings dancing together to Lumba’s hit song Aben Wo Ha with former President Rawlings cheering them on was one of the main highlights of the concert which was characterized by amazing performances from Daddy Lumba and some supporting artistes.
Ghana’s street rapper Kwaw ‘Abodam’ Kese started it all when he asked the two former presidents to shake hands and embrace each other and prove to Ghanaians there is no bad blood between them to promote peace and unity in the country.
The audience could not hold their excitement, shouting various slogans while the two embraced.
Kwaw Kese, who incidentally sung his favorite Lumba song Theresa (the name of Mr Kufuor’s wife) got the Rawlingses dancing to it.
Kwaw Kese later told Adom News he had waited for a long time for such an occasion to let both former presidents Rawlings and Kufuor know how he felt about the perceived enmity between them.
He said that the peace and unity the nation was enjoying could be strengthened if the two former presidents came together.
