While he is starring in one, rapper T.I. is still not a fan of reality shows.
"It's less about the lives of people and more about the catastrophes within the lives of people," he said. "They just want that moment of drama and tragedy to exploit instead of really focusing on the foundational structure of the lives of people."
That hasn't stopped T.I., his wife Tameka "Tiny" Cottle and their kids from agreeing to appear in the new VH1 reality series “T.I. and Tiny: The Family Hustle.”
The rapper, whose real name is Clifford Harris, told CNN he agreed to do the show because he knew it would honestly portray "a family being a family and how they deal with life as it comes on a professional and a personal level."
Cottle previously starred in her own show on BET, "Tiny and Toya," with Antonia "Toya" Carter Wright, the ex-wife of rapper Lil Wayne. Cottle said she and her husband talked about the alleged "reality relationship curse," where couples on shows tend to break up.
"This was a conversation I had with him years ago and he was always against it," she said. "We figured out a way to make it family oriented and not be a strain on our relationship, and so far so good."
The rapper, who has had his share of legal issues, said he is not concerned about how he will be perceived by fans. He said he's heard all of the negative chatter about him.
"It's left up to the viewer to form his own opinion," T.I. said. "People are judgmental naturally. In society today I think people are more critical of celebrities. To see a celebrity go through adversity or suffer, it makes them feel better."
“T.I. and Tiny: The Family Hustle” premieres tonight at 9 p.m. on VH1.
