Adenta to start enjoying the Aayalolo bus service as management of the company inaugurates a 17-member board to regulate public transport in Accra.
This, according to the director of the Transport Ministry, Rudolph Beckley, will help improve transport services in the city.
He made this disclosure at the inauguration of a 17-member board of the bus service that consists of all 12 MMDA’s in Accra and Senya Awutu East in the central region.
The board chaired by Mohammed Sowah, who is also the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the AMA will have oversight responsibility of the Greater Accra Passenger Transport Executive (GAPTE) as well as regulate public transport in Accra.
Speaking to JoyBusiness at the inauguration, Mr Beckley explained that one of the key areas for consideration is to get the Adenta-Accra stretch of the Aayalolo service running by next year.
“The project is 90 percent complete and we are working hard to get it ready. The terminal is almost completed and we hope to have it ready by January 20, 2018” he said.
When opened, the Adenta stretch will convey passengers from Adenta and its environs to the Central District.
According to the MCE of the Adenta Municipal Assembly, the introduction of the service will improve transport services to the district.
"We are very excited that this bus service is coming to Adenta, it will really make transport easy. The terminal has a park and ride spot so people can park their cars and use the Aayalolo which will ease the congestion," he said.
However, the MCE identified the Ritz junction to be a problematic area considering the volume of cars using the roundabout.
He, therefore, suggested that a switchback road is constructed to solve the issue.
