The Metropolitan Chief Executive of Cape Coast, Ernest Arthur, on Tuesday inaugurated a new market at Abura a town in his metropolis.
The World Bank-sponsored Urban Development Grant project started in 2014 and has 88 lockable stores and modern sanitation facilities that would ease the congestions associated with highly patronised markets such as the Abura Market.
The Abura market is the second biggest and busiest market in Cape Coast.
Speaking at the inauguration, Ernest Arthur urged the traders that are now in the old market to move into the new market as soon as their keys are handed over to them.
He implored them to take good care of the facility to preserve it for a long time.
"Let me also use this opportunity to appeal to traders who were relocated for construction works on this market to begin to move into the market immediately. We don't want to see anyone selling along the road,” the MCE advised.
He urged the traders to continue paying their taxes to support government execute its programmes and policies for the people of Ghana.
The Omanhen of Oguaa Traditional Area, Osabarima Kwesi Atta II, who chaired the inauguration advised the occupants to take good care of the market and pay their daily tolls so that the Assembly could undertake maintenance works on the market when the need arises.
"If you see any problem, do not hesitate to report to the Assembly for maintenance works to be done,” he advised.
Other dignitaries present at the ceremony were Nana Kojo Addae, Chief of Abura and Eric Nketsiah, the Council Chairman for the Cape Coast North Sub-Metro.
