The Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit of the Ghana Police Service (DOVVSU) is investigating a case of assault of gays and lesbians at James Town, a suburb of Accra.
A birthday party over the weekend turned bloody when angry youth stormed the event at night and assaulted all on sight because the celebrant and well-wishers were said to be homosexuals.
Victims of the attack who lodged a complaint with a human rights group in Accra, say they are living in fear. The attack is believed to have been masterminded by a gang in the area.
Public Relations Officer of DOVVSU, DSP Freeman Tettey has told Joy News a complaint has been lodged with the police and investigations have started.
He said the would visit the crime scene and invite the suspects for questioning, or they would be pursued for assault, promising the public would be updated on the progress of the case.
